Porsche 928 S4

What a great day to be alive! First my 13 (soon to be 14) year old gives me an unsolicited "I love you" (he must be up to something) then I run into this sweet little gem. A 1987 Porsche 928 S4! That's pronounced "Poor-Shah" btw. "I love you!"

I've always had a thing for Porsches and in particular the 928. The 928 is all but forgotten by now (it was phased out unceremoniously at the end of the 1995 model year) and most Porsche cognoscenti dismiss it as little more than a German Corvette. Maybe that’s why I love it so.

I’ve always thought the air cooled, rear engine Porsches to be fancy VW Beetles. I know that’s wrong but sorry, that’s just the way I see it. When Poorshah came out with this space capsule in 1977 I fell head over heels in love with it. I thought so much cooler than those Beetle like 911’s.

Also Tom Cruise’s turn in a 928 in the classic 1983 movie, “Risky Business” also helped to fan the flames of my appreciation for Dr. Porsche’s fantastic little Sports Gran Tourer. Tommy Boy’s 928 was a 1979.
Porsche. There is no substitute.

Risky Business was a very good movie that would’ve been GREAT if they hadn’t ruined it by tacking on a happy Hollywood ending onto it. Ugh. Joel, (Tom’s character) should’ve been schlepped off to a Big 10 school instead of getting into Yale. Please. Better yet, have him go off for a couple of years of community college then onto that Big 10 school.
